Behind the scenes- Rain edition

so it all started with an email. from Becky. Higgins. (I know, right?!)

I read it. And then read it again. And then took a moment to let it sink in that she was asking me to design a new edition. A whole core kit for Project Life. I ran upstairs to find my mom (who lives with us) and told her all about it amidst flapping my arms and trying to catch my breath. I ended with- I have to do this... How will I have time to do this?

During the already snug design timespan we had three family birthdays, a art/craft booth at the Waldorf Holiday Fair- and to have enough work time- I would definitely need childcare for the boys... my mom watches them one day a week so I can work, but this would clearly take more than a couple days...that meant finding a babysitter, and training her in (and as it turned out- having to swing things without her while she was sick for the first part and last part of the weeks I needed her... good times. Nothing like finishing an epic design project with two small boys on your lap!) But I had to do this. Clearly.

And so, I dove in.

below you will see a glimpse at my brain spilled out all scribbley on paper. this is how one designs when one is brainstorming while also playing trucks with small boys, preparing a healthy lunch for them, and trying to get them upstairs and napping...notebook+pen always at the ready.

(this last image is the page where I had written down all my ideas for the 100 3x4 designs -50 journaling sides and 50 filler sides- ... you can see that I had significant help from my small lap buddies on this one...)

so...that's a glimpse of the process... and here's a glimpse at all the 3x4 cards (cuz those are always my fave in any PL kit!)

Hello January...

It's all about Project Life around here. (my apologies to those friends+family who just want cute Keaton+Oliver stories or photos... I will add some soon.)

Just wanted to pop in an let everyone get a glimpse of what's here and what's to come from Splendid Fiins this year. Each month- I will be releasing a new card kit- full of 3x4 and 4x6 cards. Journaling cards, filler cards, title cards. Perfect for Project Life, if you're on board- or and scrapbooking layout you need a cute card for... Each kit will contain 32 3x4 cards (that's enough to do four weeks and not repeat! or, choose your faves and use them again and again...) and 16 4x6 cards- some with lots of space for journaling those long stories, some with space for a title or just a bit of journaling.

Also included are letter sized jpg files that you can just print- no photoshop necessary! Just print, cut out, journal on and pop in your page protectors! Super slick.

Each month's kit will have coordinating designs/themes/color palette- so all the months will work together. Each month will be a different slew of cards all up in your face- but they will all work together to make your album cohesive. And most cards aren't month specific- so if you love a card from January- go ahead and use it in April, or August, or every stinkin' month!

Project Life all up in your face.

So, recently I was able to spill on the news of being selected for the Project Life Creative Team. Which was super awesome- but also tricky to talk about, because everything in me was screaming "BUT THERE'S MORE! EVEN MORE EXCITING THINGS!" but I had to bite my tongue. Nonstop. For weeks.

But the tongue biting is officially over.

yeah, that's my mug up there. Amidst all those other amazeballs designers. Who's work I adore. Coo-coo time. And extremely awesome. Both. At the same time.

I am planning a whole big post about the process (everything from me running upstairs all breathless and arms flapping trying to spit out the jist of the first email from Becky through cranking out the final files with two small boys on my lap because our babysitter was home throwing up! The excitement!)

But, for now... I will just give a bit of a bigger peek.

The Rain edition.

I do so love it. It's bold without being overpowering. It's totally versitile (yes, there's flowers and doilies and I fully intend on rocking it in my all boy household. Stormy blue doilies? On it.)  Plenty of space for journaling- a lot or a little.

And have you seen all the others? Oh. My. Gob. I am trying to get my head around how I can do our album this year and include like six core kits... that's doable, right?

I had such a blast designing this- and I can't wait to see it used in other people's PL albums. My head might a'splode with glee. Thanks for letting me share and gush.
